This upcoming weekend, on October 20–21, Gowanus will host nearly 400 artists and venues in its 22nd annual open studios event. Gowanus Open Studios 2018 will offer the opportunity to meet artists and explore spaces throughout the neighborhood of Gowanus.
The event takes place at studios from Atlantic Avenue to 21st Street and from Court Street to 6th Avenue, celebrating a myriad of local art and artists. Some notable participants highlighted by Arts Gowanus include artists Jules De Balincourt, Trudy Benson, and Lydia Johnson. There will also be group shows at The Gowanus Dredgers Boathouse, Threes Brewing, and “The Ceramics Hub” at Shapeshifter Lab.
And don’t miss out on the kickoff party happening at Gowanus Loft on Friday night, from 6–9 pm, featuring artwork by Dale Williams. There will also be a closing party after the open studios on Sunday from 6–9 pm at Threes Brewing, limited to artists and volunteers.

“It is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors, build the creative community, and support local artists,” said Amy Williams, Arts Gowanus Deputy Director. “Without this annual event, the presence of artists in Gowanus would not be felt in such a powerful way, where we all come together to make this amazing thing happen.”
Visitors can view an online directory of artists here and create their own itinerary throughout the weekend. Printed maps are available at multiple locations throughout Gowanus, with a full list of pick-up spots available here. Arts Gowanus recommends, for those overwhelmed about where to begin, starting the day with some of the bigger studios, which will be hosting group shows and plenty of artists’ works to peruse. From there, visitors can make their way to some of the smaller locales.
