Accolades
The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts will award $413,500 in curatorial research fellowships for its fall 2018 cycle, which is the highest amount since the program launched in 2008. Each fellow — including Hallie Ringle, Naima Keith, and Meg Onli — will receive a grant of up to $50,000. [Artforum]
Nana Chinara & Shanée Smith, Kevin Gotkin, Kris Grey & Maya Ciarrocchi, Parijat Desai, Kayhan Irani, and Antonio Ramos will comprise the inaugural Moving Towards Justice Cohort, launched by arts and social justice nonprofit Gibney to support artists and projects that use art as a tool for activism and social impact. The Sharjah Art Foundation has announced the films presented with awards at the inaugural edition of its film festival, Sharjah Film Platform. The award for Best Narrative Film went to Cherries, directed by Dubravka Turic. A Vacation, directed by Deniz Eroglu, received honorable mention. I Have a Picture: Film No. 1001 in the Life of the Oldest Extra in the World, directed by Mohamed Zedan, received Best Documentary Film, and A Stroll Down Sunflower Lane, directed by Mayye Zayed, received Best Experimental Film. Apichatpong Weerasethakul has won the eighth Artes Mundi Prize, a UK award that recognizes political art internationally. The Thai film director will receive $52,500 for his film, Invisibility. [Artes Mundi]
Opportunities
The Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program is accepting applications for its 2019–2020 residency. 17 visual artists will be selected by artists and members of the SWSP Artists Advisory Committee for year-long residencies in rent-free non-living studio spaces.
