Generous financial support for research and travel enriches the graduate experience.

MA in Art History

Deadline: February 1, 2026

The two-year MA in Art History emphasizes close scholarly mentorship, object-based learning, and museum training. The program offers a full tuition waiver, stipend, and access to Sunkel Endowment grants, which fund research travel. Recent awards have supported graduate research in Berlin, Budapest, Florence, Los Angeles, London, Madrid, Mexico City, New York, and Washington.

A hallmark of the program is its close collaboration with Fort Worth’s internationally renowned art museums: the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Kimbell Art Museum, and Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Students complete a required internship after their first year and may pursue teaching and research apprenticeships throughout the program. TCU alumni have advanced to top PhD programs and hold positions at major institutions nationwide.

MFA in Studio Art

Deadline: February 14, 2026

The three-year MFA in Studio Art centers on intensive studio practice, critical dialogue, and interdisciplinary thinking. The program provides individualized mentorship and includes optional concentrations in painting, printmaking, photography, new media, or sculpture. Students receive private studios with 24-hour access to extensive facilities — including sculpture workshops, ceramics studios, digital fabrication labs, darkrooms, and photography and new media suites. The curriculum includes seminars in art criticism, contemporary art history, and professional development. Years two and three offer teaching opportunities, and the second summer features a faculty-led residency in Italy.

Guest artists, critics, curators, and scholars frequently visit the TCU School of Art. Recent speakers include Joe Harjo, Alex Da Corte, Enrique Chagoya, Golnar Adili, Xuxa Rodríguez, Christina Fernandez, María Elena Ortiz, Mark Bradford, and others.
