After yesterday’s report on MoMA PS1 director Klaus Biesenbach’s efforts to gather volunteers for a second volunteer trip to The Rockaways this upcoming weekend, we felt compelled to share these images by photographer Amanda Kirkpatrick, who traveled to the devastated Queens neighborhood last weekend to document the aftermath of post-tropical cyclone Sandy.
“After looking at so many photos of the destruction in the Rockaways I was drawn to photograph in a broad and clinical manner, to document the storm damage as purely as possible from the perspective of the transformation of structure within the context of a familiar public space,” she explained.
The city brought shows to life that will be talked about for years to come.
